Barcelona-based NDS9 and RSWM form JV to produce eco-friendly designer garments in India

Madrid – Noize Design Studio (NDS9), a Barcelona-based company specialising in the design and sourcing of apparel for third parties, and India's RSWM Limited, the textile company and flagship of the Indian LNJ Bhilwara group, have announced the creation of a joint venture for the manufacturing and marketing of eco-friendly designer garments from India. They will contribute their respective expertise to this venture. The companies also claim it will strengthen India's position as a global textile production hub, elevating its industrial ecosystem to new and higher standards.

Both companies have pointed out their respective strengths. NDS9, a company specialising in garment design, product development and global marketing, is based in Barcelona with offices in New York, Hong Kong, Delhi and Dhaka. It has joined forces with the Indian company RSWM Limited, the flagship of the Indian holding company LNJ Bhilwara.

RSWM Limited is one of the leading manufacturers and exporters of yarns, knitted fabrics and denim in India. Together they have formed “LNJ NDS9 Global Private Limited”. This is a joint venture in which NDS9 holds a 26 percent stake and RSWM holds the remaining 74 percent. Under this partnership, they will drive the construction and launch of what they call “India's first new-generation textile plant based on the Industry 5.0 concept”. This integrated, design-focused platform will specialise in producing next-generation eco-friendly denim and high-end sportswear for international brands.

With an estimated initial capacity of 1.5 million garments per month

As its base and operations centre, the new joint venture will have a state-of-the-art design and manufacturing plant in India, designed under the principles of “Industry 5.0”. The platform will integrate advanced automation systems; state-of-the-art technology; digital technologies for textile manufacturing; artificial intelligence; and sustainable, people-oriented production processes. Both parties claim this combination of technologies and standards will help make the facility “one of the most advanced and future-ready apparel manufacturing campuses in India”.

With an initial investment of 186 million Indian rupees, these funds will be used to build the first phase of the plant. This will give the platform an installed capacity to produce 500,000 denim garments per month. This capacity is planned to be increased with the development of a second phase of the facility. This will provide the plant with an additional production capacity of one million denim and sportswear garments, bringing the factory's total production capacity to approximately 1.5 million garments per month.

According to the terms of the agreement, RSWM Limited will lead the manufacturing processes, plant operations, raw material purchasing, quality systems and management of the entire supply chain related to the joint venture's operations. For these tasks, they will draw on their established track record as a group specialising in textile and garment manufacturing. They will be supported by the parallel and complementary work of NDS9. NDS9 will be in charge of design processes; trend analysis and forecasting; sales and marketing processes; product development; merchandising; and the development of international business and client relationships. For these dynamics, they will use their expertise as an international design and marketing studio with experience working with leading fashion companies in Europe, North America and Asia.

“This alliance brings together NDS9's global design expertise with RSWM's manufacturing excellence to create an integrated and globally competitive platform for high-end garments,” added Chauhan. “Together, we will offer innovative, sustainable and technologically advanced solutions for leading international fashion brands.”

“This project reflects our vision of building a state-of-the-art apparel manufacturing ecosystem,” said Rajeev Gupta, deputy managing director of RSWM Limited. He noted that the company “will lead the manufacturing, plant operations, purchasing and supply chain” for the new joint venture. It will start in two phases, first with “denim production” and then with “knitted fabrics”. The plant will have “rooftop solar panels integrated from day one”, an example of the standards that will also be maintained inside. “Through this alliance,” he added, “our goal is to offer world-class quality, innovation and sustainable manufacturing, while also strengthening India's position as a preferred global destination for apparel sourcing.”
