Fenwick's transformation strategy drives improved financial performance

UK department store chain Fenwick, has reported a significant reduction in its operating loss for the full year 2025 ended January 30, 2026. The retailer achieved a 40 percent year-over-year (YoY) improvement in operational performance, cutting its operating loss by 15.7 million pounds to 23.4 million pounds.

The figures mark the successful completion of the first year of the group's three-year transformation strategy, aimed at returning the business to sustainable profitability.

Like-for-like (LFL) gross sales grew by 2.5 percent, supported by steady momentum across the group's estate of eight brick and mortar stores and its e-commerce channel. Total gross sales reached 287.4 million pounds, compared to a restated 52-week baseline of 280.4 million pounds in the previous fiscal period. Consolidated turnover rose to 179.2 million pounds, up from 177 million pounds.

Fenwick chair Sian Westerman noted: “These results demonstrate that our strategy is delivering. Achieving a 40% reduction in operating loss in what remains a challenging retail environment is a significant milestone. Fenwick is now in a stronger position than it has been for many years, and I am confident our three-year strategy will return the business to sustainable profitability.”

Digital investments and omnichannel progression

The performance improvement was supported by several core operational initiatives. Key developments included:

The full migration of the retailer's e-commerce operations to the Shopify platform, establishing a unified customer interface across digital touchpoints and physical stores;

The rollout of advanced data tools and business reporting systems to enhance analytics and customer insights;

The integration of a centralized customer relationship management (CRM) database via Klaviyo, alongside the launch of the MyFenwick Loyalty programme powered by Yotpo in September 2025.

Capital expenditure yielded strong commercial returns at the group's flagship Newcastle location. Following these gains, Fenwick plans to direct additional physical store investments toward its Kingston and Brent Cross locations during the upcoming financial period.

Executive deputy chair Mia Fenwick added: “The first year of our three-year plan has delivered strong progress and demonstrates that our strategy is gaining real momentum. We have built stronger foundations for the business, invested in the customer experience and continued to evolve Fenwick as a truly omnichannel retailer.”
