Total sales at John Lewis for the week to May 11, 2019, rose 0.6 percent, which the company said was driven by strong performance in its shops, particularly with the cool, wet weather at the start of the week. John Lewis said in a statement that fashion sales also increased marginally by 0.2 percent.
The company added that sales of beauty, wellbeing & leisure were up 8.4 percent. However, the cooler weather impacted sales of warm weather products and sales of menswear were down as the company annualised brand offers that it ran last year.
Home sales were down 3.3 percent, while electrical and home technology sales were up 3.4 percent.
