Mothercare's financial outlook remains uncertain despite cash injection

Mothercare has provided an update regarding its financial outlook following a cash injection from the liquidation of its former retail subsidiary.

The company was notified by the liquidators of Mothercare UK Limited, which entered administration in 2019, that a further 0.8 million pounds (1.07 million dollars) cash dividend will be paid imminently to a wholly owned subsidiary of Mothercare. This subsidiary acts as the secured lender to Mothercare UK.

Despite the cash inflow, executive leadership noted that the payment does not materially alter the overall operational outlook for the business or the financial concerns detailed in its statement on September 18, 2026.

On September 18, 2026, Mothercare disclosed that its primary Middle Eastern franchise partner plans to close a substantial majority of its stores during 2027. The decision is expected to trigger a material reduction in the order book for the financial year 2028, leading to a decline in revenues, profits and cash flows.

Mothercare chief executive officer and board directors have initiated a strategic review of the business model and cost base to preserve stakeholder value. Management stated that the outcome of this review and the longer-term solvency of the business remain highly uncertain.
