Plans for a 125 million pound designer retail outlet in Grantham have been given the go-ahead, potentially leading to 1,700 jobs.

Independent department store Oldrids & Downtown in Lincolnshire won planning approval for the new 220,425 square foot outlet following a four hour meeting of South Kesteven District Council's development management committee which saw 10 members voting in favour of and three against the proposal.

The new development will be home to 107 new stores, 22,560 square feet of indoor leisure space, and improved public transport access.

“A huge amount of work has gone into this application,” said Oldrids and Downton managing director, Richard Broadhead, at the meeting. “We are very excited about creating something special for Grantham. Retailers are telling us to ‘get on with it.’ We are ready to go.”
