French designer Isabel Marant is the subject of a new documentary. The Paris-based creative was filmed for her Spring Summer 2020 presentation, covering the artistic process in the lead up to the show.
The hour-long documentary was directed by filmmaker Dominique Miceli and will first be broadcast on French television channel Paris Première on December 15th.
Marant is celebrating 25 years of her eponymous fashion label this year, which sees her romantic, nomadic, easy-to-wear designs inspire a multitude of generations. Her clothes illicit that je ne sais quoi attitude that so many brands try to emulate but never succeed at replicating.
An indispensable figure on the French fashion scene, Marant has always favoured real clothes over the frilly, overly girly and red carpet dressing. While some dream of iconic women in glossy magazines, Marant dresses women for their real lives – walking down the street or zipping off on a scooter. Reportedly she never takes a piece out of her workshop without trying it on herself.
