Louis Vuitton dedicates new travel book to the virtual world of K/DA
Louis Vuitton is venturing into new territory. The French fashion house is releasing a new volume in its Travel Book series, this time leading to a place that does not exist on any map. The focus is on Tempo Point, a fictional metropolis from the universe of the virtual pop group K/DA. Its members are also playable characters in the video game League of Legends: Ahri, Evelynn, Kai’Sa and Akali.
For the new book, Louis Vuitton has collaborated with game developer Riot Games for the first time, as the fashion house announced on Friday. In the previous series, the company had partnered with artists from all over the world.
With Tempo Point, Louis Vuitton explores a completely fictional world within its Travel Book series for the first time. Inspired by League of Legends, the volume combines gaming, music and graphic novels. The focus is on the four members of K/DA, whose daily lives are followed over a 24-hour period. 70 illustrations guide readers through the imaginary cityscape and the group's world. These are complemented by a biography of K/DA and a travelogue about Tempo Point. The limited Collector’s Edition also includes a vinyl record with the virtual pop group's new EP. The project opens up new creative perspectives for the series and enables a novel travel experience, according to the press release.
The Tempo Point Travel Book is available in two versions: a Standard Edition and a large-format Collector’s Edition. Both versions are designed as a hardcover with a fabric cover and feature a seven-colour print and a screen-printed cover. The content is available in English, French and Chinese.
The collaboration is not the first joint initiative between Louis Vuitton and Riot Games. The two companies had already worked together in 2019 and 2020 on League of Legends. At that time, Nicolas Ghesquière, artistic director of Louis Vuitton's womenswear collections, designed the so-called Trophy Trunk for the game's World Championship.
He also designed virtual outfits, known as skins, for the characters Qiyana and Senna, who belong to the virtual hip-hop collective True Damage. The partnership also included a physical LV x League of Legends capsule collection with clothing, bags, accessories and other products, which was also designed by Ghesquière.
