Now in its ninth edition, Afro Fashion Week Milano is set to return to Italy’s fashion capital, hosted alongside Milan Fashion Week and spanning February 21 to 26.

Afro Fashion Association, the organiser of the event, said the week will have a “new look” in the form of additional locations throughout the city and different events related to the overarching theme, ‘Connecting All Stories’.

Like always, the fashion week will be focused on diversity and inclusion, bringing out new creatives not only in fashion but all sectors within multiculturalism.

This will particularly be seen in the participation of young BIPOC creatives, who will each present fashion and accessory collections.

The ‘Instagram Seminar and Aperitif’ will kick off the event, in collaboration with Vogue Italia and Meta. During the occasion, emerging creatives will be introduced to new techniques and tools to help express their vision.

The following day will see 12 emerging designers come together in the Modes space, where they can come into contact with the commercial side of the industry and exhibit to consumers.

Thursday, there will also be an invite-only presentation of Karim Daoudi and Zineb Hazim, two Moroccan designers who will present their footwear and clothing collections at the Hotel Senato.

The exhibition ‘Discovering the World’ will open the same day, giving visitors a look into the creations of 15 young talents from around the world curated by the association’s founder Michelle Ngomno.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Nigerian designer Papa Oyeyemi of Maxivive, will present his new genderfluid collection, while the first edition of the Black Carpet Awards will take place in the evening.

Other designers included in the line up are that of British-Nigerian Tokyo James and Berlin-born Mimine Ag.
