Wax London has added Japanese selvedge denim to its range for the first time, working with two mills in the country's denim heartland. The collection launched on Tuesday, ahead of London Fashion Week.

For the made-in-Japan garment, Wax partnered with Kaihara Denim in Fukuyama, Hiroshima, which produced the fabric, and Johnbull in Kojima, Kurashiki, which made the garment. Kojima sits in Okayama Prefecture, widely regarded as the birthplace and heartland of Japanese denim. Both mills use traditional shuttle looms. The result is a dark rinse version of the brand's Felix silhouette.

The brand describes the partnership as the start of a new chapter for its denim, suggesting further Japanese production may follow.

The wider denim offer is built around three silhouettes. The Russell is a straight fit from waist to ankle with a regular leg, available in seven washes and two leg lengths. The Felix is a relaxed straight fit falling from thigh to ankle, offered in ten washes and two leg lengths. The Ramsdale is the newest addition: a relaxed barrel leg that tapers towards the ankle, cut from heavier denim for structure and available in raw indigo only.

Beyond the Japanese piece, Wax offers three further selvedge colourways woven in Pakistan — dark indigo, mid-blue and light blue — each available in both the Felix and Russell silhouettes and in two leg lengths. That brings the selvedge count to seven styles.

All denim is 100 percent cotton with no stretch or elastane.

Three top layers accompany the jeans: The Healey is the brand's take on the chore jacket, designed to pair with the new Ramsdale barrel jean. The Rufford is a reworking of the classic denim jacket silhouette. The Manilla is a chambray shirt based on a Western design.
