Athletic footwear brand Skechers announced it has opened its 5,000th retail store, as the brand aims to operate 10,000 stores globally.

The announcement comes as Skechers USA Inc. continues to expand its global presence, opening key stores in Chile, Greece, India, Mexico, South Korea, the United States, and Colombia, with its 5,000th store opening in the latter's capital city, Bogota.

“Every Skechers store brings valuable engagement with consumers to build an increased awareness for our brand,” said Michael Greenberg, president of Skechers, in a statement. The third-largest athletic footwear brand in the world, Skechers operates over 5,000 branded retail locations in more than 120 countries.

“Skechers stores are the best place for fans to experience the signature comfort, style, and innovation of our products—and when they do, they’re loyal for life," added Greenberg.

Skechers opened its first store in Manhattan Beach, near its corporate headquarters back in 1995. Since then, the brand has steadily grown, opening its first store in Japan, its 100th store in Times Square, New York City, and its 3,000th in China.

To ensure a consistent brand image and message, each location features the same look and concept across six continents. "With an additional 140 to 160 more company-owned stores planned this year and hundreds of stores opening annually with our partners, we are on the road to 10,000 Skechers stores,” concluded Greenberg.
