Trendstop brings FashionUnited readers a look at some of the menswear highlights from Milan Fall/Winter 2024-25 Fashion Week.

Milan Fashion Week saw a move away from maximalism and towards pragmatic functionality. Designers promoted everyday luxury with a focus on wearability and utilitarian minimalism. The great outdoors merged with the corporate world in line with consumer desire to engage with the environment was also addressing the practicalities of modern life.

Gucci

Taking the reins from Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s new creative director Sabato de Sarno presented his first menswear collection for the house. Clean cut tailoring, practical winter knits and just a hint of sparkle marked a shift towards creations with a broader appeal. The revival of the 90’s version of the Jackie bag as well as monogrammed backpacks and bumbags featuring laptop pockets and key loops emphasised Gucci’s leathergoods heritage while offering contemporary functionality for today’s consumers. Subtle blurring of gender boundaries linked the menswear pieces with the previous season’s womenswear showcase with crystal collars and silk scarves adorning the ensembles.

Prada

Raf Simons’ latest outing for Prada fused indoor with outdoor. Ideas around getting back to nature blended with the different lifestyle elements of the modern man. Business suiting teamed with bright knits, utilitarian workwear pieces, naval-inspired detailing and weatherproof outerwear were intermingled to create a practical wardrobe for the city or the country. Webbed nylon totes and textured swimming caps introduced an active outdoor element alongside leather slippers and cosy tweed or sheepskin coats that exuded warmth, protection, and the comforts of home.

Fendi

Silvia Venturini Fendi also explored the countryside for Fall 2024. Functional yet highly tactile and experimentally engineered fabrics ranged from heritage tartans, cosy shearlings and wax coated jackets to shredded denim blended with mohair and suede with a velvety textured corduroy effect. Fisherman coats and Bermuda shorts with kilt-like pleats continued the Highland theme, teamed whilst hiking socks and leather versions of the classic Wellington boot for a luxury take on durable and timeless outdoorwear.
